In 2002, Kelly's mother, The Talk host Sharon Osbourne, was diagnosed
with colon cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in 2012
Kelly Osbourne is back in the news after quitting 'Fashion Police' in February and she's getting candid about her health situation.
Just a day after Angelina Jolie disclosed she removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes for fear of ovarian cancer, Kelly has revealed she also has the BRCA 1 gene.
The former E! Host told Entertainment Today's Nischelle Turner on Tuesday, March 24 that: "I
have gotten tested, and I do have the gene, but I'm still young enough
to -- I mean, you can have the gene and never ever get it. It's just
keeping up with the doctor, going and getting checked all the time, and
being responsible to yourself."
In 2002, Kelly's mother, The Talk host Sharon Osbourne,
was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in
2012 when she learned she carried a gene for breast cancer.
Given this difficult experience, Kelly wholeheartedly agreed with Angelina's choice.
"Being
a daughter of a cancer survivor, my mom went and had the double
mastectomy when she found out she had both genes [BRCA1 and BRCA2]
because she didn't want to have to go through it again. I think that
it's not just a good move, but a responsible move, so that she can be
the mother that she deserves to be to her children." she explained.
Cancer experts
have praised Angelina's courage to go public about her surgery and say
it's a move to raise awareness among women suffering same disease to get
early medical attention.
