Iraq: Tikrit victory gives way to looting and lawlessness

 

Iraqi Shia militia, who helped recapture Tikrit from the Islamic State (IS), are being pulled out of the city amid reports of violence and looting.

The militia made up the vast majority of the pro-government force that retook the city over the past week.
But people in Tikrit say the city's liberators have since stolen cars and ransacked government buildings.
Tikrit was captured by Islamic State in June last year in what was an important strategic victory for the group. The city was ravaged by the fighting that followed and now sits largely empty.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has accused Whitehall of "dirty tricks" after a report emerged claiming she told a French diplomat she would prefer David Cameron in No 10 over Ed Miliband.

The Daily Telegraph published a civil service memo claiming Scotland's first minister privately said Labour's leader was not "PM material".
Ms Sturgeon said in a tweet the story was "categorically, 100% untrue".
She called for an "urgent inquiry" into the circumstances of the leak.
French officials said she did not express a preference for PM.
But Labour called the report "damning" and said that even if it was not true the "SNP are happy to see another Tory government".

The port city, a last foothold of supporters of absent President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, has been shaken by more than a week of clashes between Shiite rebels and loyalist militia backed by Saudi-led air strikes.

Stephen Odion and Stephen Akhere, twins, 26, have been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for alleged kidnapping. The suspects, alongside one Stephen Ehikioya, 33, suspected to be the elder brother to the twins, allegedly ambushed one Alfred Ehikioya along Era-Ekpoma Road, shot him in the leg and kept him in a forest for four days. The abductors then released the victim after receiving a ransom of N500, 000 from his relatives.

Bola ShagayaBillionaire denies plans to host Aisha Buhari

 

Billionaire, Bola Shagaya has denied reports that she is planning to host Aisha Buhari, the wife of Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to a lavish dinner.

Rumours of the supposed dinner went rife on social media after the UK branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made the disclosure.

However, in a statement by her aide, Deji Adeyanju, Ms Shagaya has said that there is no such plan in the offing.

The statement reads:

"Our attention has been drawn to a false and misleading story on the social media that Hajia Bola Shagaya is planning to host a dinner party in honour of Mrs. Aishat Buhari, wife of the winner of the March 28, 2015, Presidential Election (General Muhammadu Buhari)."

10 Egypt soldiers killed, 17 injured in Sinai armed attack

      

TVC NEWS, EGYPT - Ten Egyptian soldiers were killed and 17 others were injured in several concurrent attacks by armed groups in southern Sheikh Zweid City in the northern Sinai on Thursday.
A Ma'an reporter said clashes erupted during the attacks that targeted five military ambushes; al-Kharruba, Qabr Amir, al-Shallaq, al-Jura and al-Daraib in which the armed groups fired RPG shells.
