The HKN star and Diamond Platnumz worked on a collaboration single,
‘Number one’, in 2014, which rose to become a smash hit single.
The song bears the credit of introducing Diamond into the West African music scene, and Davido has shed light on how they met.
Speaking
on Kenya’s The Trend, while in Kenya to perform at the 5th AfroBeatz
Festival, about what informs his choice of artiste to collaborate with,
Davido said: “Honestly to me, I like good music, if the song is
good, I don’t really focus on looking down on the artiste, whether big
or small.
“When I did a song with Diamond I didn’t know who
he was, that was the first time I heard of him, but I heard the song, I
liked the song, I did it, and it turned out to be real good.”
Davido
and Diamond’s relationship which bordered on friendship, reportedly hit
the rocks after their social media fight concerning the 2014 Big
Brother Africa winner saga.
Diamond has since gone
on to take advantage of his fame, with numerous visits to Nigeria, and
collaborations with Nigerian artistes.
His latest
high profile collaboration was scored with Iyanya, where he guested on a
single titled ‘Nakupenda’. The video for the single has been shot and
will be released in the coming weeks.
Check out Diamond’s latest video, ‘Nasema Nawe’, which features Tanzanian veteran, Khadija Kopa.
