Election 2015: Cameron pledges 'paid volunteering leave'

 

A Conservative government would offer up to 15 million workers three days' paid leave a year for volunteering.

The move, which will affect the public sector and large firms, comes alongside a separate Tory pledge guaranteeing that regulated rail fares will not go up by more than inflation until 2020.
Labour said the volunteering idea was a "re-announcement" from 2008.
It also questioned how the real-terms ticket freeze would be paid for, saying fares had risen by 20% since 2010.

In China Country urges U.S. not to be partial on territorial issues

 

China on Thursday, April 9, urged the U.S. not to take sides on territorial issues, voicing anger against U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, who said 'Diaoyu Islands' fall under the scope of the Japan-U.S. security treaty. "U.S.-Japan alliance arrangement originated from the Cold War. We strongly oppose using this arrangement to undermine the interests of third parties.

In UK Oil discovered near Gatwick airport, experts describe find as 'significant'

There could be up to 100 billion barrels of oil onshore beneath the South of England, says exploration firm UK Oil & Gas Investments (UKOG), BBC reports.

The firm drilled a well at Horse Hill, near Gatwick airport last year and analysis of that well suggests the local area could hold 158 million barrels of oil per square mile.

UKOG however admits that only a fraction of the 100 billion total would be recovered.

Ayo Fayose APC lawmakers urge Chief Judge to set up panel to probe Governor

 

The 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of  the Ekiti State House of Assembly have urged the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola to set up a panel to probe Governor Ayo Fayose.

The lawmakers, in a letter to Justice Daramola, stated that the seven-man panel would serve the purpose of investigating the allegations contained in the impeachment notice served to Fayose.
