The 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have urged the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola to set up a panel to probe Governor Ayo Fayose.
The
lawmakers, in a letter to Justice Daramola, stated that the seven-man
panel would serve the purpose of investigating the allegations contained
in the impeachment notice served to Fayose.
Some of the allegations levelled against the governor and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola are impunity, violence and stalking among others.
The
APC lawmakers reached the resolution on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at a
special sitting at the Mary Hills Boys’ High School in Ado Ekiti.
Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe, explained that the session couldn’t hold at the Assembly premises due to the roadblocks mounted by Fayose’s supporters.
“Relying
on Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
1999 (as amended), Adedipe moved the motion empowering the CJ to set up
the panel,” a statement by Wole Olujobi, media aide to Speaker, Adewale Omirin reads.
Fayose
and Olusola had urged a Federal High Court in Abuja to discontinue the
impeachment proceedings but the court declined and instead ordered the
lawmakers and Justice Daramola to appear before it on April 15.
