If you have tried on gel or glitter nail polish, you would definitely remember how hard it was to get rid of it.

Your options must have included soaking in a bowl of nail dissolver, or picking off every last fleck until your nails were sad and trashed.

Well, you might want to thank me later because there are now three new ways to get back to bare nails, without sacrificing your sanity.

STEAM
Best for: Gels
After you insert your fingertips into the Steam Off’s enclosed chamber, the machine mists a warm acetone solution over them that dissolves the gel.

It’s far from instantaneous, but it's far less drying than a full-on acetone soak.

SCRUBBERS
Best for: Glitter
Butter London’s Glitter Scrubbers are individual, acetone-saturated pads with a rough side to wipe off the sparkly flecks and a smooth side to sweep away the rest of the polish.

They can get messy, though; for a drip-free alternative, you could try the Cutex Twister, a jar fitted with an acetone-soaked sponge and a multipronged brush that you dip your fingers into.

PEEL-OFF BASE COAT
Best for: Glitter
Start your glitter manicure with one coat of Orly One Night Stand or NYC New York Color Strip Me Off, both milky white base-coats, on clean nails. Apply polish, and when you’re ready to remove it, just peel.

Both formulas are great for glitter or any wild Saturday-night manicure you want gone by Monday.

Sadly, they aren’t great if you want your manicure to last through the week; within a day or two, your polish will peel off on its own.
